As a building inspector carrying out many building inspections in Boree i have dealt with many customers looking for an inspection for a house they are intending to buy. I have with interest noticed the reasons they choose to engage this inspector or that inspector. Or i have tried to.

There are inspection businesses popping up that charge hundreds of dollars less than the going rate of $400-$500 for a combined pest and building inspection. They don’t usually hang round long.
Out of curiosity one day I called one of these guys to ask a few questions: The one that stuck in my memory is this one:
Me: How long does an inspection take as I’ll need to arrange the time?
Guy on phone: About 30 minutes mate, we won’t hold you up.
I told him I’d get back to him but I was left wondering how on earth you can do a decent building and pest inspection on a house in Boree in only half an hour. You cant!

When a business charges substantially less than the going market value for any service or product, something has to give and it’s quality that gives 90% of the time. And that is just not on on the purchase of such an expensive and important item as the house you and your family will live in.
So if you’re price shopping inspectors, please look past the price and pick an inspector on their experience, insurance, location, references or all the above, anything except price only.
